George Schieck is a 28-year Navy veteran, with assignments that included service in the Far East and on senior staffs in the Middle East. He is a graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School where he studied policy and culture with dual concentrations in the Far East and Middle East, focusing on China and Israel. He also studied History at Boston University and Philosophy in Charlottesville, and is currently completing a graduate degree in Philosophy in San Diego. His philosophical interests include Spinoza, value theory, deep ecology, and Whitehead. Meanwhile, he continues to be very interested in everything and anything having to do with China and the Middle East. For avocations, he enjoys music (especially classical music), portrait drawing, billiards, live steam model railroading, rowing, and looks forward - someday! - to working as a race volunteer during the annual Iditarod in Alaska. His photograph is a self portrait (and his first drawing ever), from the 1980's.
