Steve Horn The environmental crowd has a different vision of NY and the country/world. It means stepping away from the "suicide economy," as David Korten calls it, and creating something that won't end up destroying the planet by 2100 or sooner based on the latest climate science. I see where you're coming from, for sure, though. And I don't think Cuomo is looking at this from any type of love for the ecosystem type of way. It's a pure decision for him between the power of the oil and gas money vs. people power.
Steve Horn Think of Hakim like Rahm Emanuel. It is Cuomo's decision, but it takes the appearance, in some ways, of Schwartz fronting as a rogue to take the pressure off of Cuomo. Does that make sense? Better to portray Cuomo as "weak" than as a "strong man." All well-orchestrated public relations at the end of the day. In terms of the leak, why not? Various insiders are instructed to manipulate the media via grey propaganda all the time. The tactic is as old as the origins of modern PR/propaganda itself. It especially helps when you have a willing stenographer like Hakim to help it along.
Steve Horn Why would a journalist ever report that something of that nature had been leaked and then not SHOW the report that was leaked? That's like Wikileaks saying it has a bunch of leaked documents and never putting them online.
Steve Horn Depends on what environmentalists you're talking about. Many environmentalists, albeit far from enough, are calling for a different world, where consumption on the whole doesn't reign supreme and where food is produced locally. Basically, a world where Wall Street doesn't call the shots, but local communities. There's a word for it: democracy.
Steve Horn How in the world would any us review a report that only has been leaked to Danny Hakim? Maybe Hakim could've at least linked to the report to allow us all to read it. What's the Administration hiding? What's Hakim, a close friend of Larry Schwartz, hiding?
Steve Horn Yeah sort of. But don't kid yourself, both parties push policies that are ecologically destructive in the extreme. It's just that their PR tactics for the masses differ.
Steve Horn What do scientific studies have to do with the constitution?
Steve Horn It's corporatism dressed up as "free market" and "small government." These are buzzwords for the masses. Those that run the show know they need what they call "big government" to fulfill their corporate agenda.
Steve Horn Except that this simply isn't a two-sided issue, as I pointed out in the piece. The scientific record on this one is as clear as daylight on a sunny afternoon. http://www.desmogblog.com/2012/11/15/why-climate-deniers-have-no-credibility-science-one-pie-chart
Steve Horn The scientific record is abundantly clear on this one. The other side, on the other hand, appears to believe in some sort of conspiracy theory. http://www.desmogblog.com/2012/11/15/why-climate-deniers-have-no-credibility-science-one-pie-chart
Steve Horn Fabricated? Where's your evidence? It's well-known that it was a document obtained by scholar Peter Gleich, then given to DeSmogBlog as part of what would become "Heartland Institute Exposed." If you're going to smear the comment board with innuendo, it's best you at least provide a URL or some paper trail to follow for fellow readers/commenters.
Steve Horn Preach! Thanks for taking the words out of my mouth. :) Well-said, my friend.
