Prajwal Ciryam There's a tradeoff. Obviously, many workers are willing to accept these conditions, which are better than some of the alternatives. I am not saying that labor standards aren't context-dependent, but only that there are certain minimum standards upon which we ought to all be able to agree. I am also saying that we could do with more transparency from Apple, a request that is useful regardless of what one thinks the standards themselves ought to be.
Prajwal Ciryam While I am concerned about Apple's labor practices (especially given its cash flow), I'm not sure I would make that comparison. As to why now. Well, I think it's clear that Apple has received a lot of scrutiny recently and changes are responses to that. But that's fine; that's what the role of the press and public action and, I'd like to think, shareholders is — to create pressure for action.
