Amy Stoller Combining two mutually exclusive conspiracy theory is fairly common in Syrian discourse. The newspaper Al-Thawra accused the U.S. ofworking with Al Qaeda
Amy Stoller Fascinating piece, Sean. from the time I first heard about drones this what I was worried about.
Amy Stoller I don't think that the military will not allow Sharif to pull out of the war on terror. This involvement gives the military access to huge resources and a rationale for involvement in domestic politics. The military has almost complete autonomy in the security realm, and it has never seemed particularly concerned with the public backlash.
Amy Stoller Great article Saad. I agree that Russian arms sales have a lot to do with regional influence. Syria will become more important to Russia, as Russia's position alienates its other allies.
Amy Stoller Interesting Article! But Turkey is not backing Assad regime. It has openly backed the opposition and may be training and arming them. However, a substantial proportion of Turkish public opinion supports the regime. http://www.economist.com/blogs/pomegranate/2013/05/syria-and-turkey
Amy Stoller Great article! What do you think is the Turkish military's role in all of this?
Amy Stoller Great article, Amy. A lot of people who aren't currently involved with higher ed are unaware of this problem.
Amy Stoller Zack, State universities put their money into funding programs and salaries; for profits make money for their board and shareholders. I agree that aid and loans drive up the cost of college. I was suggesting that for-profits are part of the problem rather than the solution.
Amy Stoller Creepy. this reminds of a piece wrote a few weeks ago about a college that is considering using student ID cards to track what the students buy (http://www.policymic.com/articles/12254/invasion-of-privacy-arizona-state-to-use-id-cards-to-track-students), but this is even creepier.
Amy Stoller Good article, but I'm curious why it's illustrated with a picture of cows when chick-fil-a doesn't serve beef.
Amy Stoller I totally agree that today's political discourse could use a lot more respect.
Amy Stoller I agree. If we make ourselves responsible for catching all the world's war criminals, we will always have troops deployed somewhere.
Amy Stoller It's true that $50 million isn't much, but that's just the extra funding approved in May. I couldn't find any information on the total cost of the project.
Amy Stoller Good point, Zachary. I came across some of this information during my research, but to get into it I would need to write a book, not an article. Our presence in Africa has definitely expanded in the last 4 years.
Amy Stoller Good point, Thomas. The Syrian might not want the U.S. to lead them, and intervening in Syria would make the U.S. responsible for whatever happens next. We don't want to be put in that position.
Amy Stoller I have found glassdoor very useful, particularly the section that gives reviews of interviews. Great article!
Amy Stoller As person with a disability, I totally agree. Everything I do doesn't have to be inspirational just because I'm doing it with crutches.
Amy Stoller It's true that Netanyahu has a history of anti-Iran rhetoric, but in that the case of Bulgaria, public opinion demanded that he respond. If he does in fact have proof that Iran is responsible for the attacks, he has to say something. And as far as I know, no one has proposed another credible candidate. In terms of the Olympics, I think that the accusations are more for effect, but not just to stir up the situation with Iran. There's a lot of concern in the Israeli press and on social media that the government isn't doing enough about Olympic security.
Amy Stoller Victoria Woodhull was also a medium. One of the most interesting political candidates we ever had.
Amy Stoller Very interesting summary, Jonathan. Do you know if Morsi and Kandil knew each other before? Previously, political power in Egypt has been be based on who you know.
Amy Stoller iPhones aside, sanctions seem to be having an economic effect (see http://bit.ly/wGFDUA and bit.ly/NcEhRs ), but it's worth considering: if sanctions are causing food shortages, but not preventing people from getting iPhones, are they doing what we want them to do?
Amy Stoller I loved Prime Suspect
Amy Stoller Hopefully this controversy will make people consider their prejudices and preconceptions. Well done John McCain!
Amy Stoller Focusing on the hot button Israel/Iran issue misses the point that terrorists groups are active in this often ignored part of the world, and more attention should be paid to it.
Amy Stoller We could all analyze and criticize the mistakes made by other country's governments. It would give us a nice feeling of superiority.
