Dante Barry First, I think that the naturalization exam is flawed. Improving history and civics education is huge task & arguably affects how our institutions reflect the improvements through education. Secondly, questions should be asked however on what *should* a citizenship exam include? It becomes irrelevant if buzzwords are commonly used & info is not applied. We need to restructure the test where it provides context for how citizens can put it into practice & apply it to their lives and communities. We need to identify solutions to address what Alex is bringing to light. I once did a similar sampling for my undergraduate thesis research and found similar results. I know that the Roosevelt Campus Network has been working on this bit.ly/govbyandfor
Dante Barry I am really surprised and astonished that the belief that people were swayed away from the "Kony 2012" campaign was due to IC's Founder's public antics and not because of core criticism of IC's campaign. The larger issue of the Kony 2012 video / campaign was due to inability to address the systemic challenges the people of Uganda face, in addition to not allowing them the opportunity to take agency over their challenges and country. Nonetheless, online organizing is meant to be integrated with offline action. I do not think that Invisible Children intended for the Kony video to go viral and did not have a 'next step' strategy to continue the momentum they originally had.
