Camira Powell I'm glad you enjoyed the articles, and yes, hopefully in the future there will be more especially if readers make it known they like stuff like this
Camira Powell This is a great list, but your definitely missing two college classics: Higher Learning directed by John Singleton and School Daze by Spike Lee
Camira Powell Thanks for calling me out, definitely made some changes to better reflect my ideas. However, I still believe that no matter what the behavior of King was on that night, he didn't deserve the beating he got. By coming up for reasons why one incident like this is excusable because extreme circumstances or anything else gives people idea this an okay for the future. And that's not okay.
Camira Powell Can anything make this girl smile?
Camira Powell This is interesting. I scored a 33, which i think is pretty accurate reflection of my life and lifestyle, but the test is kinda racist. Not in a bad way, but it definitely doesn't take into account cultural differences of people from lower/upper middle classes that are of color. Just something to keep in mind
Camira Powell I think this article brings up a wonderful point about the changing art world that is being increasingly influenced by the technology we use. I must admit, I'm not sure I would call Doug Rickard a "photographer." However, I do believe he is a true artist given the fact that we was able to comb through thousands of Google images and select ones that are so resonant and haunting for the spectator. Now that his art is out in the public, I am curious to see what the future holds for this burgeoning art form.
Camira Powell I know, I have many conflicts with this myself. But at the end of the day, I support the right of women to choose to express themselves in anyway they want to as long is it is THEIR choice, which I think is the main point of feminism.
Camira Powell African Americans are Americans, too. So shouldn't it all be the same?
Camira Powell The whole point of tweeting is giving a person the ability to express their opinion in quickly to a broad audience, similar to the whole point of free speech. If Gov. Brownback can't handle a teen's comments about his own shortcomings, he has no right to demand the student to apologize for anything. At least he (or his people) realized that eventually
Camira Powell This is a really interesting solution to increasingly difficult dilemma. However, like it was adressed in the article, which country bear the burden these immigrants? Yes, Germany seems like the most feasible option, but something tells me that current German inhabitants would not welcome them with open arms, especially if they end up taking upper level, executive jobs.
Camira Powell It's sad to think that in some parts of the world, women are still treated like second-class citizens. Not only denied their basic human rights and freedoms, but then tormented and condemned for trying to defend themselves. Gulnaz's pardon is a small victory for women's rights in Afghanistan, yet the country has so much farther to go.
Camira Powell Sad to say, but most Facebook users never don't read their users agreement which basically states that the social networking site owns everything a user puts up on the site. Even with hiding pictures, untagging yourself in unflattering posts and changing your user name, everything can still be found and there's not much to do. Until social networkers start demanding more privacy and ownership of their stuff, security will always be an issue.
Camira Powell Somehow I don't feel surprised by The Donald's vying to be the moderator of the upcoming debate; however, I do question the sanity of the person who agreed to let him do so. I have to agree that Trump is little more than a attention seeking media machine at this point, so his presence is not necessary to conduct anything that resembles a decent debate.
Camira Powell But why should China bail out the EU? Aside from their ability to do so, the costs may outweigh the benefits when considering what China stands to lose if the EU doesn't learn how to regulate their own economy.
Camira Powell Once again, Ann Coulter has opened her mouth and the world stopped to listen. This woman has made a career out of saying ridiculous things, much to the chagrin of anyone with the capacity to reason. This "better Blacks" comment is just her latest way to get attention, really showing her ignorance
Camira Powell This is a really interesting piece, and one that touches many--including myself--on a personable level. I think you make some good points about the current crisis of this "education bubble" but I think we need more than a free market education to solve this problem
Camira Powell Let's be real, Cain has no business running for president and this is just further proof of that. Aside from his controversial stances on domestic policies, the fact that he completely dismissed the importance of such a volatile situation that will undoubtedly affect us is unacceptable.
Camira Powell I think there have been some goof points about the validity of this argument, though there is no way to regulate discrimination based on "good looks." An inclination towards beauty is both biological and reasonable, but it's our culture's obsession with some unobtainable ideal that's the problem
