Ali Wohlgemuth Matthew, this is incredibly well written. Thank you for your insight and candidness. Most definitely a story of a life to be well lived.
Ali Wohlgemuth I love the list! I would also add Chicago. With summer fireworks, Buckingham fountain, outdoor symphony practices, and a whole host of other free outdoor venues, the city is hard to beat on a budget. It’s also worth a trip to one of the many museums or to catch Cubs game at Wrigley Field.
Ali Wohlgemuth Although I agree with 13 of the events posted, I seriously have to question trampolining as an Olympic sport in general, much less one I should feel compelled to watch.
Ali Wohlgemuth In 2011 the USPS reported delivering 168 billion letters, 40% of the worlds mail. The service should be privatized or the government should charge for the actual cost of mail (think Norway). Or perhaps we could follow Dubai and have a service that delivers only to PO boxes and pays no postmen/women.
Ali Wohlgemuth Why is it that a woman who "has it all" is one with both a career and kids? Feminism should recognize that some women dream of only one of these things. We must reframe the parenting conversation for working women and challenge America’s belief system around the expectations of women and motherhood.
Ali Wohlgemuth Kate Upton looks healthy, which is a step in the right direction for anyone walking the runways. As such, she serves as a realistic role model for many young women who want to be beautiful and fit. Models who work without entering the unhealthy fashion realm of BMI’s under 18 should be commended.
Ali Wohlgemuth As of 2009, women make up 51% of the professional workforce in the US and earn 60% of university degrees. University of Chicago tracks graduates and reports that 75% of their female grads who have had kids are still in the workplace. Yahoo is not exhibiting innovation in hiring a mother-to-be.
Ali Wohlgemuth It is interesting how countries as “developed” as the US could even begin to allow the deregulation of such uncertain crops. In the "developing" country of India, the Ministry of Agriculture blames GM crops for everything from declining cotton yields, to increased pest attacks and farmer suicides.
Ali Wohlgemuth Often students begin graduate school for the wrong reasons: bad advice from the university, fear of leaving academia, to cultivate parental pride, or inability to get a job. Potential Ivy Leaguers must have the intelligence to know when to pay top dollar for education and when seek it elsewhere.
