John Johnson It shouldn't, but people still have disagreements on definitions. I have heard anarcho-communists argue that employers are rulers, and therefore anarcho-capitalists are not anarchists. What does "no rulers" mean?
John Johnson Good luck if you're putting your money in the casino called the stock market.
John Johnson I vote to make it illegal for the government to have guns.
John Johnson And sometimes people that claim to be anarchists are not anarchists, like the communists that protest reduction in government.
John Johnson I am interested.
John Johnson Apparently the state is your god.
John Johnson Yes, I know, healthcare is not affordable for some people because of the government. I just making the argument from morality against government intervention. I prefer it to the argument from effect.
John Johnson Wars are waged by governments, not free people. You are right, there will always be bad people, but what we don't want is those bad people to have monopoly power of violence over others. I don't see how the evidence available points in the other direction. States all over the world are on the verge of economic collapse. Something is obviously wrong.
John Johnson Curtis, since you say that you aren't anti-government, I'm curious as to what your definition of government is.
John Johnson Slavery was commonplace until it wasn't. The same thing will happen to government someday.
John Johnson The only government "solution" is violence.
John Johnson I guess that's why I'm not in the military. I reserve the right to say no.
John Johnson The liberty movement is bigger than one man.
John Johnson Benjamin, Jobs bills will make things worse. We need less government.
John Johnson Government is used as a means to redistribute wealth, profit by force. I prefer to interact with voluntary institutions as opposed to coercive institutions.
John Johnson "Competition and voluntarism are the only known methodologies for repairing and opposing the inevitable errors and corruptions that constantly creep into human relations. The fact that human beings can make mistakes – and are always susceptible to corruption – is exactly why they should never be given a monopoly power of violence over others." -Stefan Molyneux
John Johnson That is a poor assumption.
John Johnson You are right. I "misspoke". I don't know enough about the law to know if they are illegal. Legal doesn't mean moral. Everything that Hitler did was legal. They should say no because it is wrong. If they actually wanted to defend the constitution, they should be fighting in DC instead of Iraq.
John Johnson They could say no when they are ordered to fight an illegal war. I understand that there are consequences, but they should do the right thing.
John Johnson What hypocrisy? I can come to a voluntary agreement with an insurance company to cover the things that I want for the price that we both agree to. I don't need the government to force obligations upon other people.
John Johnson And who does a justice system that is determined by who has the biggest guns benefit? This is what we have now, and it benefits the privileged few.
John Johnson It's not free. It is subsidized via government robbery. It's not about religion, it's about a middleman with a gun interfering with mutually voluntary trade.
John Johnson I'm not going to lecture a starving person for stealing a loaf of bread, but society should not be organized by a legalized gang of thieves. The scenario you put forth is called a lifeboat scenario. It's not something that comes up every day. All other avenues should be pursued before resorting to violence. I believe that good charitable people would not let people die of thirst.
John Johnson Seamus, I'm so use to micing your comments that I misread this one. I think that libertarian principles are consistent with voluntarism.
John Johnson If it is funded voluntarily, then by my definition, it is not a government. But I would be willing to accept a voluntarily funded government. But that also means that individuals can choose to withhold their financial consent without violence being initiated upon them.
