James Street You incorrectly assume that the oil money was to make prices cheaper here in the US. It was to enrich the well-connected corporations that got the contracts, like Blackwater and Halliburton. There is simply no justification for invading the Middle East and sending our teenagers to be slaughtered in the sand. We weren't attacked by Iraq or Afghanistan; if anything, we were attacked by Saudis, and Saudi Arabia is the main hotbed of Wahhabism, the sect which Osama bin Laden, the longtime CIA asset, was a part of.
James Street ROOOOOAAAADDDDSSSS!!! Goodness, can't we just let that die? That's as silly as the cartoon that showed people in a Soviet bread line, and one said to the other, "In capitalist countries, the government doesn't give out ANY bread!" We don't "need" government for anything, especially the terrible road system. Private enterprise could do much, much better, and for much less money.
James Street The cake is a lie!
James Street I don't care about a woman's uterus or what she does with it. I do care about her murdering an innocent life that happens to be inside of her uterus, though. That's unacceptable in a civilized society.
James Street Jerry, what's the difference between a libertarian and an anarchist? In this political climate: six months. It's ok, you'll arrive eventually. ;)
James Street Ed, I don't think you actually read my article. Nowhere did I mention, allude to, or even hint about the death penalty. I'm fully in favor of the death penalty, if the Biblical requirements of two witness is satisfied. I'm NOT in favor of war, the inevitable result of which is death and suffering for innocents. THAT is the point I made, and I'm afraid you couldn't have missed the point worse if you had aimed at an elk and shot a tanning salon.
James Street Poignant, William. Even now capital controls are being created to prevent wealthy individuals from leaving, or to punish those that do. I'd say it's long past time to have moved somewhere else, if you can afford to do so.
James Street Or, if you fancy the Latin, "panem et circenses."
James Street Jennifer, Obama has been a wonderful, stand-up kind of guy. He stood up for the unfortunate people that got railroaded in the MF Global fiasco by elitist Jon Corzine - oh wait, no he didn't. Well, at least he did his duty by prosecuting the failed Wall Street corporatists that - oops, he didn't do that either. Surely he's going to fix Fannie and Freddie, the two behemoths that caused so much difficulty...then again, maybe not. Jennifer, there's this myth that somehow Obama is for the little guy, while Republicans are for big banks and corporations. The reality is very different (concerning Obama, that is; you're pretty much right about the Republicans in general). In truth, they're BOTH corporatist, interventionist, elitist hacks. Obama panders to all the big corporations and does their dirty work, while HHS hands out ObamaCare waivers to all his buddies' corporations. Let's be rational instead of partisan.
James Street I just find it ironic that people are clamoring about a "war on women," while at the same time buying, in droves, a book about a controlling, manipulative, sexually-deviant man's relationship with a woman. It's very strange, to me.
James Street Isn't it interesting that the most popular book right now features a woman in a SM/bondage sexual relationship? What does that say about our society?
James Street I'll not get into it here, but suffice it to say that an anti-war stance is a (relatively) recent and, dare I say, hypocritical stance for the Roman Catholic Church to take.
James Street The ability to criticize the government is one of the few freedoms still left in America. If you don't like it, YOU leave.
James Street I'll have to disagree with both of you. The stock market numbers are meaningless. GDP is meaningless. Reasons: The Stock Market grows at the same rate as the M3 Monetary Base is expanded. The composite stock value tracks the same as QE and other inflationary practices, meaning that it's a net neutral, if not a net negative, as nothing actually grows in value. GDP as it is currently calculated also includes government spending, which makes those numbers completely bogus. Government spending harms the economy, whether in the short term or long term, because it takes capital out of the private sector and then misuses it, wasting billions in the process through graft, waste, and corruption. So, we can talk about the stock market, but those numbers don't mean a thing.
James Street http://andrewsullivan.thedailybeast.com/2012/10/quotes.html Romney is a typical politician: a consummate liar. His invisible "plan" was a disaster in the making. His corporatist, corporate welfare nonsense would have only hastened the impending collapse, plus his billions of increases in "defense" spending would have been even more disastrous for the economy than Obama's plans, if that's even possible. And yes, Mormons wear aprons as undergarments that they believe are a part of their salvation, even though I've been reading my Bible for going on two decades now, and I've never seen that in there.
James Street Believe what you want, John. The Bible is historically accurate, mathematically impossible, and science is still catching up to things in the Bible. But if you want to pretend like it's not real, that's your prerogative. As far as GMOs, there are many horrific things that appear to be a result of their use in human-consumed products, as well as indirectly through GMO grain eaten by animals that are consumed by humans. If GMOs are so safe, then Monsanto and Cargill and the rest shouldn't have a problem with human testing, right? http://www.anh-usa.org/genetically-engineered-food-alters-our-digestive-systems/ The evidence against GMOs is mounting. You keep bringing up Neem trees, but Neem is a naturally-occurring organism, not a Frankenstein abomination created in a laboratory. http://geneticroulettemovie.com/

Friendship with all, entangling foreign alliances with none. This has simply become ludicrous, spending almost $1 Trillion a year to police the world outside our borders where we have no business being. The retired military brass at Lockheed, General Dynamics, and GE love warfare, though. It means big, fat contracts, and bonuses for them.
James Street John, you're engaging in a fallacy, much like the people that assume that no taxation means I want people to die of horrible diseases. GMOs aren't necessary ANYWHERE. Selective breeding has done wonders, but injecting bacteria and fungus DNA into food in order to make insects' stomachs explode when they eat it? Do you really think it's a good idea to consume "food" like that? And I don't know where your comment about the Bible came from. It wasn't made up, nor were "liberals" involved with its translation. The "liberal" accusation is a fallacy anyway, since many of the people supporting Prop 37 are "liberal" hippies. Try rationality instead.
James Street David, thanks for pointing out my error on Syria. I just find it ironic that all of a sudden the US government is supporting al-Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood all over the Middle East. It seems clear that the US government is cutting off their nose to spite their face by supporting the Sunni groups against the less radical Shia sects in control of Syria and their ally, Iran. It seems a very dangerous gamble with almost no possible positive outcome. Well, except for Iran finally getting a Rothschild-controlled central bank. There's always that, like in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Sudan.
James Street John, when it results in Candida, skyrocketing cancer rates, mutated genetics, Morgellons disease, and a whole host of other maladies and afflictions, it it really worth it?
James Street "Gateway drug" Genius.
James Street George, the result is always the same, all throughout history. Government begets government, which engenders more government. It's an immutable law of nature. Our former Republic's shelf life is long over. It's time to try something else, since your plan has never worked.
James Street Geoffrey, we've tried it your way, and it has failed miserably every time. Your time is up; when an experiment fails every time you run it, you don't keep trying the same thing: you get a new hypothesis.
James Street Chris, be careful about making sweeping assumptions and accusations. I'm a Bible Believing Christian that believes every word found in my King James Bible, but I'm also against GMOs, and we try to source our food locally and from conventional and organic sources. In fact, some of the people most against GMOs and vaccines and whatnot are Christians much like myself. So, careful with the false assumptions and generalizations.
James Street I know they're rigged, and my last article talked about the similarities between the two. PolicyMic is a different kind of place. Don't be a jerk.
