Robin Bugbee So let me get this straight Jake: The President is against the Citizens United decision so he should just let the Republican Super Pacs bludgeon him with obscene amounts of money and obscure his message and chance to win re-election? Why? After watching what the Republicans have done with Super Pacs so far it is clear that he has no choice to use them if he has any hope of winning against his Republican challenger. I see nothing wrong with that.
Robin Bugbee Bull. I can't help that you grew up in a trailer parhk and Audrey's comments indicate that she knows she was privileged and she is NOT whineing. She is confused and trying to find her way and you need to get off her back and stop viewing everything through a narrow lens of Liberal or Conservative. "Her generational critique is from an elite perspective" Yeah right...as if that exists only among those who are not conservative republicans. Bull.
Robin Bugbee Great article. I think term limits are vital. Our founders did not intend that people make a career out of representing their peers but that they serve a term or two and then return to their private life. Having a Congressperson hold office until senility is foolish. But then also is a 2 year term. It means they are virtually involved in continuous campaigns and fund raising. Let's have a four year term and a limit of 1 or 2.
Robin Bugbee Mr. Neader: the anger you express in your response is almost scary. What did Audrey say other than that she was confused about her path and trying to work it out that set you off? And why in God's name did you drag "thats what's wrong with Liberalism" into the discussion. I can't possible understand what either "Liberalism or Conservatism" has to do with any of this? Give her a break!
Robin Bugbee Dear Dr. Malpani: Don't you think your response is a bit harsh. This is a young person who does NOT seem to be feeling either sorry for herself and knows that she is privileged. Since when does questioning where you are and where you are going qualify someone for a "spoiled brat" label? I think Audrey is doing just fine and I don't remember it being any easier when I was her age. Lighten up will you?
Robin Bugbee This kind of thinking is really specious. Whether you agree with abortion or not, comparing the termination of a pregnancy when we really do not know when fertilized eggs become "people" to the possible murder of African-American People is absurd.
Robin Bugbee Komen does have the right to choose and so do millions of fair minded people who thought their choice was in the best interest of women to prevent cancer instead of simply another bunch of reactionary conservatives with a hate on for anyone who disagrees with them, I'm a Liberal, I'm proud of it and I'm through ducking from the baloney thrown at intelligent conversation from people like you interested in anything but. Don't give them a dime.
Robin Bugbee I have a feeling you are familar with "outright lies".
Robin Bugbee Sorry David. I was replying to one of the many silly posts by Warner Todd Huston (or was that Garner Ted Armstrong) and somehow it looked as if I was replying to you. My mistake.
Robin Bugbee You are the one that made the foolish claim that PP was solely an abortion provider. That is simply untrue and just because you keep repeating that does not make it true. You are entitled to oppose abortion. You are not entitled to repeat lies about any organization or individual that you know to be exaggerated or untrue. It is unethical and immoral to do so.
Robin Bugbee Another bald faced lie. PP does not force anyone to abort a child. (In fact I have never heard of any organization that forced a woman to abort a child.) Where does this kind of foolish drivel come from or do you just make it up in your spare time? This site is supposed to be for reasonable debate on important issues, your silly charges are not worth the space you are using to unfurl them.
Robin Bugbee You are simply wrong on just about every count. But given the obvious reality that you come from a conservative republican point of view and your candidates have continually and repeatedly made false and obviously erroneous statements about this and multiple issues, I am not surprised. Before you make ignorant charges regarding Planned Parenthood, may I suggest you get your facts right. Repeating a lie does not make it true.
Robin Bugbee This is a much more simple issue than anyone would like to admit. I am in favor of free and open access to birth control but I don't think any college or university should be the the access point for it. If there were no other outlets available for college students to get the birth control information and medical devices needed, I would be more open to using university medical practices as a first line source...however, that is not the case. Hospitals, clinics, private doctors are just of few of the multiple sources of birth control. There is no necessity for any University medical center to be the primary source. We'er trying to reduce the cost of higher education. Why not start here when alternate sources abound? This should truly be a non issue.
Robin Bugbee So now that Komen has seen the light (or more accurately the probable decline in their bank balance) one day after agressively defending their initial decision they have made a u-turn and we're all supposed to forget that they made an obnoxious, dangerous decision based only on reaction to conservative Republican anti abortion stands to put basicaly poor at risk women at greater risk of breast cancer by defunding the screening they depend on.
Robin Bugbee Whooey. Put yourself in my place or that of any small independent business trying to make it. A food truck parks in front of my shop where I pay a LOT of rent and a LOT of passed on real estate taxes(for property my landlord owns). The truck pays NO rent for the space they occupy and NO real estate taxes and sits in front of me taking advantage of the customers my shop and other draw to the area. How is that equitable? It isn't.
Robin Bugbee I think we are back in Goldwater land here. Newt's only real contribution to the 2012 election will be to continue to damage Romney by bashing him incessantly and Mitt's only alternative will be to continue to go further and further towards the conservative fringe, putting him outside the American political mainstream. No matter which one gets the nomination, they are both beginning to look like damaged goods. Like canon fodder.
Robin Bugbee I like food trucks, but in most communities they're just another example of a distribution method that gets a rather unfair leg up on those of us who struggle to run the brick and mortar businesses they compete with. We pay incredible rents, are subject to outrageously high commercial real estate taxes passed on by building owners that the trucks avoid and they sit on city property they pay nothing to use. We need a fair and level playing field.
Robin Bugbee You know Melissa, I think I have clearly made my point and any further instruction from you on the meaning of the phrase "no insult was intended" is really not needed or appreciated. Have a happy life. (No insult intended)
Robin Bugbee No insult was intended and I think I have explained that. Since I am continually bombarded by snide, disrespectul and ugly comments by people who consider that behaviour acceptable on this and other similar sites, please forgive me if I have little tolerance for accusations of insulting comments when that has not been my intention and I have clearly made that point.
Robin Bugbee It might not be what the article was about but your chief problem with the speech seemed to center on the fact that the President did not have completed legislation for each of the ideas her spoke of. Kind of silly to progress to actual bill development when you can't depend on having a fair hearing from your opposition don't you think?
Robin Bugbee And I explained the gap between the impression your bio gave and your reality. I'm not vilifying you, but you seem to take crit as vilification. I would suggest you not to do this. And as you should know, the problem the administration has had in not getting legislation past the opposition party has nothing to do with lack of Democratic sponsors and every to do with Republican opposition to just about anything.
Robin Bugbee It's a shame that you didn't respond to comments regarding the substance of my response. Sorry if you were offended but you can be privileged without growing up rich. Your own bio gives that impression. Wall St., lived in Japan, Going to St. Johns etc. Doesn't sound much like someone who has had a hard time or real world experience to base his comments on. Maybe you should change your bio before you blame others for the impression you have made.
Robin Bugbee Tech entrepreneurs are not prepared for the long haul and slog of getting things and accomplishing change. They are used to being able to control things and make independent decisions. I'm sure we will eventually get candidates from the tech world, but not because they are from that world. And I agree with other responders: government is not business and we should avoid trying to treat it as such.
Robin Bugbee I agree Lawrence. Gorman has little if any real world experience and apparently little understanding about how legislation is developed or passed. Another privlieged kid who has all the answers but does not understand the questions and there is nothing the President could have said that he would have agreed with. Plenty in that speech that represented solid thinking but the opposition party has no intention of cooperating in any real way. Sad.
Robin Bugbee Sorry: don't agree. There were plenty of good ideas their to reform taxes and get people back to work. President Obama has met with a brick wall of Republican No's for the last three years which threatens to continue. If the opposition party continues to do everything they can to thwart the administrations commitment to the survival and growth of the middle class, they do so at their peril and at ours as well. Stop it please.
