Jeanne Vickery Also, the US lead the world wide charge in HIV/AIDs awareness and the use of condoms for prevention. The UN hitched a ride.
Jeanne Vickery Mike, the US actually leads the effort of women in charge of their family planning options. Point, click, and buy. Anything that requires a script should have a co-pay. Jeanne Vickery Elaine, you and I both know that the U.S. has lead the way for oppressed women in many countries to gain access to family planning options. Further, the US lead the charge in the fight against HIV/AIDs in impoverished countries and we used contraception awareness in these efforts.
Jeanne Vickery Susan, history has already happened. There are a multitude of family planning options available on line from Walgreens and Walmart. There is not one woman in the union who is 'denied' access to family planning methods in this nation: Walgreens provides a link for options: http://health.walgreens.com/womens-health/articles/Smart-and-Safe-Birth-Control-Options/457 Here's a the search list for condoms: http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/condoms/ID=361273-tier3 Here's the search list for over the counter female contraceptives: http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/female-contraceptives/ID=361271-tier3 Walmart has over 200 items in their sexual health section: http://www.walmart.com/browse/personal-care/sexual-wellness/976760_1005862_1001759/?browsein=true&_refineresult=true&catNavId=976760&ic=32_0&povid=cat976760-env474855-moduleA101912-lLinkLHN7Sex&fromPageCatId=976760
Jeanne Vickery John, get out of the political weed patch, please. And I'm not talking about the crap that is smoked.
Jeanne Vickery Elaine, you should have seen Crowley dance around the subject on her show today...
Jeanne Vickery In other words, the US actually LEADS in the area of family planning. The pill should have a co-pay.
Jeanne Vickery Women have access to several methods of birth control in America. Jeanne Vickery Jeff, prior to the most recent attack on Israel, we only saw one side of the situation - Palestine'. and heard of all of the wrongs of Israel. In fact, a few months ago there was an article here on policymic where a young Palestinian man was brought in to custody by Israel for questioning. The arrest was without warrant and the young man was released. In the interim, his sister commented on the article stating, "My brother and myself do not suport a two state solution. We support a one state solution under Palestine. Now, Palestine has attacked Israel and Israel is responding. Both sides give pause for concern and, unless they are willing to go ahead with a two state solution, the conflicts will not end.
Jeanne Vickery Susan, I think pud is a more fitting description of Murdoch :D
Jeanne Vickery A) Murdoch's a pud. B) I think the media has become extremely anti-Israel in the past few years. C) Both sides need to call a truce and learn to live with each other. Until then, Israel will continue to do what they feel must be done to secure their nation. They were attacked within 24 hours of nationhood recognition in 1948 and have been periodically attacked since. They have also launched offensive attacks. Again, both sides are at fault and both sides need to work through their differences and learn to live with each other.
Jeanne Vickery Chris Christie rocks!

Jeanne Vickery Thanks, Tony and welcome to PolicyMic! I was wondering what the top salaries were.
Jeanne Vickery Hey Mike, they actually had quite a few open job postings right before the union decided to not return to the production floor. I suspect the bankruptcy filing may have had something to do with not bringing on non-union workers. Its one thing to try to hire for a couple of plants... The union strikes shut down too many operations. The web-site is down has shut down: http://hostessbrands.com/Closed.aspx
Jeanne Vickery That's right, Gary. Its built into the rent. As I stated, the heritage study doesn't delve into this aspect.
Jeanne Vickery I understand that many like this study to support their case. Unfortunately it does not have enough detail on where the people acquired the good or service. As to #3 - the car thing - most poor people I know have junkers. Cash for clunkers really hurt them because the program took too many cars off the lots and broke the car business cycle. The clunkers are now junkers and many are stuck with unreliable transportation because they cannot afford a warranty or huge maintenance costs in keeping up a junker. Not all communities have a robust public transit system like NYC.
Jeanne Vickery Gary, what that study does not show: 1. A/C: Is it supplied with the apartment or house? The regions I lived in 90% of the apartments have built in a/c. 2. Microwave: A couple of years a go I purchased one from Walmart for $25.00. The prices have now gone up and, for a while, they were pretty cheap. Also, many apartments come with a microwave/stove combination. 3. Yes, many poor people now have cars. 4. Satellite/cable: Again, does it come with the apartment? Some complexes include basic cable. 5. Internet service: How many are living in a complex with free internet? 6. Have a computer: I know many poor people who do have computers and got them used. 7. TV, gaming system, etc: Did they buy the TV at a yard sale, goodwill, etc? Again, I know poor people and that's where they picked up the tv's and gaming systems. Or, someone gave them their old appliance. (cont'd)
Jeanne Vickery Mike, a) I've worked with women who have been raped and faced the decision of abortion. b) the physiological impacts of rape are deeper and last longer than the impacts of abortion. The reason why rape cuts a deeper wound are many. Ultimately, the rape victim is put on trial, if they are lucky to get a prosecutor to bring it to court. Victims who had abortions are vilified for the act of abortion. Victims who carried the child to term are put on trial as the defense tries to use the birth as 'evidence' that the rape was consensual sex, not rape. My observation is the best person to counsel the rape victim who became pregnant from the rape is someone who can put their stance on abortion aside and be there for the victim regardless of the decision they make regarding the pregnancy.
Jeanne Vickery Susan, been there, done that in retail. My feet will feel for you and your hubby all week-end long.
Jeanne Vickery Alison, there are some states that have enacted laws prohibiting practitioners from performing abortions while others have had the laws on the books for years. And, as you pointed out, federal law overrides the state laws so the state does not have the ground to prosecute.
Jeanne Vickery Please note, there was a point in time where religiously affiliated organizations quietly ended pregnancies when the mother's life was at risk.
Jeanne Vickery Alison, on this you have a point. There is a recent trend, in some areas, where this has happened. The problem lies on the shoulders of the extremes of BOTH the pro-life and pro-choice movements. Pro-choicers used it as vindication that the religiously founded practitioners are hypocrites and force government to dictate religion (including removing their tax-exemption status). This pushed the pro-lifers to defend religion, and some hospitals ceased allowing it. None of the arguments justify giving the pill away for free. It should have a co-pay.
Jeanne Vickery Alison, religiously affiliated hospitals are not refusing to perform abortions because of a 'religious exemption'. That's a dishonest leap used to get rid of the tax exempt status for all religious affiliated organizations. Hospitals with religious foundings and ties do not allow abortions based on the religious beliefs - not an 'exemption' status that is tied to taxation.
Jeanne Vickery Alison, even if those environments are still around, the parent has a choice - cell phone bill, pay for the co-pay, rent, food, etc. Believe me when I tell you this, cell phones are discretionary for people making those choices.
