Jeanne Vickery Well done, Johnathan!
Jeanne Vickery Gentlemen, with respect, I disagree with both of you on the shift. The left has gone farther left and unwilling to gravitate toward the center. The right has gone farther right and is unwilling to gravitate toward the center. The middle really hasn't moved that far, which is why there are so many that have left both parties. Brandon, Obama can claim to be a 90's moderate, but his actions, rather attempted actions (e.g. tax the rich 75%) are contrary to that statement. There isn't a moderate dem from the 90's who would have said, 'tax the rich 75%'. Then, after a year of bashing Mitt Romney for being rich, he wants to hire someone with MORE money stashed in foreign accounts than Romney? http://www.forbes.com/sites/janetnovack/2013/05/18/5-questions-congress-should-ask-obama-commerce-nominee-penny-pritzker/ His own 'base' has serious issues with this pick: http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2013/05/20/union-opposes-penny-pritzker-as-commerce-pick/
Jeanne Vickery Brandon, with respect, I don't see that. I saw that in the 90's with Clinton. I saw that in the 80's with Reagan. I don't see that happening now. What I see is a partisan divide from both, repeat - both, sides and Obama has to rise above it.
Jeanne Vickery Mayer is a smart business women. DirecTV made a play a while back. Once the yahoo bid was announced, DirecTV stated they were going to make another run once Yahoo's exclusive option ran out. The board moved before the price tag went up.
Jeanne Vickery Thanks for the insights, Phil and thanks for your service! Considering the discussion this has stirred, your idea of a portable awning my be a good use of taxpayer dollars.
Jeanne Vickery Brandon/Patrick - here's a silly question - if the whole birther thing didn't work out as planned for Hilary, why on earth would a very, very small group of people who lean right use it? I get the college transcript thing (the left also uses it). As for the leadership - the divide continues to get broader and the left has become as bad as the right when it comes to vitriolic rhetoric. That's where Obama continues to fall short - he has work in his own party to do before anything will move forward. As it stands, from what I can see, it's still a blame game looking toward the 2014 election.
Jeanne Vickery lol - sorry Abdul! Per Frank's link - my question is does the Army have the same dress code regarding umbrella's as the Marines? If so, then it should not have happened. If not, why? Our military forces each have their own set of dress codes. Often times they overlap, sometimes they don't. It goes back to the staffer's educating themselves. In any event, they should not have been used - that's what aides are for.
Jeanne Vickery The president's staff - someone should have advised him on the marine dress code regarding umbrellas. C'est la vie!
Jeanne Vickery It's an issue in staff training but nothing more. C'est la vie!
Jeanne Vickery I figured that, Abdul. Honestly, I think the left is blowing it out of proportion. But hey, I can now say that I've read an article from the DC caller
Jeanne Vickery Abdul, didn't we just have this conversation? :D The guys holding the umbrellas for Bush Sr. are not American military members. The picture was taken in Malta during the Malta summit of 1989. As the host country, Malta supplied the umbrella holders and, based on the design, the holders are Malta military. According to Malta's web-site, it looks like a late 80's version dress uniform #1: http://www.afm.gov.mt/no1 So, that bring up the next question, when photo-ops like this take place in the rain in another country, should presidents politely decline the assistance of the host country if said host country decides to use their military members to carry umbrellas?
Jeanne Vickery David, if Ford is charged and convicted then he should to to jail. Agreed. Leaders should be clear-headed. Agreed. The fact that he was booted from two events and was falling down, and allegedly drunk at the time, should have been called out long before a video surfaced, and appropriate action taken. Leaders should have drug tests - agreed. We all have to take them for our jobs and they should be no different (great point, btw). What Berry has 'to do with it' is there are a lot of parallels between the two men as these events have been reported. The 'right' in Canada is coming out in support of this guy just like the left in America came out in support of Barry. This Ford guy may very well go to prison, get treatment, then run again and get re-elected.
Jeanne Vickery Evan, this is a site for debate, not insults. The community guidelines can be found here: http://www.policymic.com/info/comments
Jeanne Vickery Angel, agreed and mic'd. Thank you for re-enforcing that rape is about control.
Jeanne Vickery Simone, re: westboro. If you click on the comments you'll find that nearly all conservatives and libertarians on this site are in agreement with the left on westoboro. The reason why you don't *hear* about it is because that never gets brought forward in the media or by the left leaners, like yourself Why don't left leaners bring this forward? That answer is simple - it goes against the false narrative that is used to lump conservatives and libertarians in with the westboro group.
Jeanne Vickery Mike, this was flagged for violating the community guidelines.
Jeanne Vickery Mike, the green flag was unintentional. Men are not 'animals' as you claim. That argument is used as an excuse.
Jeanne Vickery Ernestine, welcome to policymic. It looks like your caps lock button is broken. If it is not broken, please unlock the caps lock key and take a moment to review the community comment guidelines: http://www.policymic.com/info/comments . Thank you!
Jeanne Vickery I agree that the 're-branding' of this character, along with the cabbage patch kids, my little pony, etc. is completely absurd. At the rate of cartoon plastic surgery that seems to be going on, it wont be long before they all start to look like Joan Rivers. The character should be returned her original state, bows and arrows included.
Jeanne Vickery Susan, these ladies are doing just fine supporting their arguments and I suspect he's already been brought to an editor's attention by someone watching the thread. "Can't you recognize an abuser.." Yes, they can. That's why they're taking a stand and, in the process, teaching others how to do the same.
Jeanne Vickery Finally, the only thing you've accomplished with this mode of circularity is to unite two women, who would typically fall on opposite sides of the political spectrum, on the topic of rape.
Jeanne Vickery In this link, you will find the following statement, "The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) defines rape as: "The penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim." This fact negates your perception of how law enforcement defines rape. Further, numerous studies have shown that rape has absolutely nothing to do with hormones. It is, in fact, about control over the victim. Also highlighted on kidshealth.com. Additional information can be found on this site: http://www.nsvrc.org/
Jeanne Vickery Mike, you're the one who decided to continue the circularity by injecting your age into the discussion. You did this to discredit the female commentators and elevate yourself above them with the following comment: "I'm almost 30, you insolent child. You know absolutely nothing about life, my little pampered doll. Don't frustrate and embarrass yourself any further by attempting to educate this 29 year old scholar." Now, you have two women who have already achieved the 30 milestone who have discredited your extremely weak "I'm older, therefore I'm wiser" argument and have yet to cite any sources to support your case. kidshealth.org has excellent resources that educate parents and kids regarding rape: http://kidshealth.org/teen/safety/safebasics/rape_what_to_do.html (cont'd)
Jeanne Vickery Thanks, Terrill! I completely forgot about the Malta summit (there was some activity with NATO the same month. Abdul, I stand corrected, again and it looks like the umbrella holders were provided by the Russian government, which supports my case that the uniforms were not American military. In summary, the picture negates the author's stance that Bush Sr. used American military to hold his umbrella. That decision was made by the country who hosted the summit. The article on the D.C. Caller site highlighted the impropriety of using American military to hold an umbrella, not an aide.
Jeanne Vickery Mike, a) I'm past 30; b) bragging about "getting p#ssy" when used after raping a passed out person or someone who is far to inebriated to give consent is about power: social power/control within the group. If the perpetrator did not believe this gave them social status, they would not have bragged about it nor would they have raped someone who was not capable to give consent. In summary, the statement in, and of, itself has nothing to do with being 'horny'. It is a reflection of the values of the crowd the person is hanging around with.
