John Legend Thinks All Men Should Be Feminists

John Legend just came out as a feminist. Everyone should stop what they're doing and start a Hey Girl Tumblr already.

At a press conference promoting his upcoming show The Sound of Change Live, John Legend used the F-word. Not the type that's usually bleeped on live television, but rather the kind that public figures such as Katy Perry or Taylor Swift would never dare utter in front of their publicists to a room full of journalists.

In expressing his deep felt commitment to Chime for Change, the charity dedicated to empowering women worldwide which his show is raising money for, the nine-time Grammy award winner said:

"All men should be feminists. If men care about women's rights the world will be a better place [...] We are better off when women are empowered it leads to a better society."

When I told the feminist editor at PolicyMic this morning, it was difficult for us to keep composure.

Legend also went on to say that part of his unshakable appreciation for women stems from his enduring veneration for them. He explains:

"My mother is a big inspiration she home-schooled me when I was young and my grandmother. Both of them stressed education and music to me, and I wouldn't be where I am today without either of them."

Following that statement, the recording artist proceeded to casually mention that he admires, rather than fears, assertive women: "I'm not intimidated by strong women."

The charity show will take place on June 1st in London and will also headline Beyoncé and Florence and the Machine.
