South Carolina Election Results LIVE Romney Will Likely Cruise to Victory in the South

In South Carolina, Republican presidential canidate Mitt Romney is leading President Barack Obama in the polls 46% to 40%. Like its northern neighbor, South Carolina tends to vote Republican, and many are predicting the state will go to Romney.

If absentee votes are any indication, voter turnout is expected to be high. According to AP sources, “state election officials said we're on our way to setting a record for absentee voters. As of the end of the day Friday, about 330,000 of the 390,000 absentee ballots requested in South Carolina have been cast.”

South Carolina has 9 electoral votes and 7 congressional districts.

For the House, only one district is showing a close race, between Tom Rice (R) and Gloria Bromell Tinubu (D). Noteworthy issues include a proposed statewide amendment that would combine the ticket for governor and lieutenant governor, and vast inequities in campaign funds.

AP reported Monday that the remaining six incumbents have raised at least “10 times more money than their opponents.”  This large gap in support has made most of the races largely uncompetitive.
