In a bizarre twist, teen pop sensation Justin Bieber has apparently been asked to star as Christian Grey in the upcoming film adaptation of the best-selling book 50 Shades of Grey. Or at least so says the New Zealand Herald. Apparently, Bieber said he was asked to star in the film when he did an interview with Jonathan Ross' talk show, saying "They actually want me to be in the movie!"
Simply put, there is no way Bieber will star in 50 Shades of Grey alongside Anastasia Steele. Not only is not an established actor, there are a host of other celebrity male actors who have the leg-up on Bieber for the role, most notably, Henry Cavill and Matt Bomer. Ryan Gosling may also be the front-runner for the role.
So this report seems more like mindless media speculation than anything else for the pop star with a teen following. So who can fans actually expect to see star in the role?
Man of Steel's Henry Cavill and White Collar's Matt Bomer are squaring off on YouTube for the role of Christian Grey, as they both star in numerous fan made Fifty Shades of Grey trailers.
Bomer is a 35-year-old American television actor, who has long been favored for the role due to his popularity with female fans, but he is openly gay and therefore may not ultimately be chosen. Meanwhile, Man of Steel's Henry Cavill is a 29-year-old English actor, known for his role in Showtime's The Tudors. He will star in Christopher Nolan-produced new Superman installment set to premiere in summer 2013.
Sorry, Bieber fans, but Christian Grey will not go to the Biebs.
