Encouraging More Debate on PolicyMic

Today, we’re really excited to introduce our revamped debates. We are re-introducing our debate pages, which are now SEO & Facebook friendly, and opening them up to more users on the site. Debates can include anywhere between 2 to 8 participants. See Christine and Michael debate from last week here.

And to include more voices, we’re now allowing anchors to challenge pundits to debates. Pundits will have the opportunity to decide which debates to accept or reject, but anchors will have the ability to publish articles in the form of debates.

Here’s how it works:

1)   Find your partner and click “Debate”

2)   Fill out the debate challenge

3)   Your partner will accept or reject the debate

4)   Submit your respective articles within 48 hours

5)   The editors will edit and it’s on!

We’re also excited to release a new experiment with the level system. Looking at the distribution of users, we’ve seen a lot of smart millennials get discouraged in the early levels because of the difficulty of leveling up. We’ve adjusted the levels accordingly, with the aim that anchors will use debates (accepted by other pundits) to level-up. Check it out and let us know what you think.

As always, we'd love to hear what you think!
