Floyd Lee Corkins is Alleged FRC Gunman: Supposedly Decried Conservative Policies Before Firing on Guard

In an incident whose details will soon become clearer, a gunman walked into the Washington D.C. headquarters of the Family Research Council — a conservative Christian nonprofit — and opened fire on security guard Leo Johnson, wounding him in the arm.

The gunman has been identified as 28 year old Floyd Lee Corkins II of Herndon, Virgina. This appears to be his Facebook page.

According to WJLA, Corkins “made statements regarding [FRC’s] policies, and then opened fire with a gun striking a security guard.”

"Don't shoot me, it was not about you, it was what this place stands for," Corkins is alleged to have said.

It has also been reported that the gunman was carrying a bag from Chick-fil-A, the fast food chain whose COO Dan Cathy recently endured a firestorm of criticism after he spoke out against same-sex marriage.

If the reports surrounding this incident are true, it brings together several political hot-button issues into one bizarre and violent incident: gun control, Chick-fil-A, gay marriage, and a new twist on America’s culture wars.

Or it could just be an insane person too demented to have what one could call a coherent political ideology, as was the case with the Sikh temple shooter Wade Michael Page, whose only ideology was hate. Ironically, the Southern Poverty Law Center has designated FRC as a hate group because of its fervent anti-gay stance.

According to Ryan Reilly of TPM, Corkins is not registered to vote in Virginia. No doubt some will be eager to prove the existence of a political motive for the shooting.
