50 Shades of Grey Movie Christian Grey Casting Frontrunner is Ryan Gosling Not Robert Pattinson

As the speculation continues for who will be cast as the lead actors in the upcoming 50 Shades of Grey movie continues, a new actor has worked his way into the mix to play the lead male role of Christian Grey: Cuban-American star William Levy.

All summer long, media buzz has been building over which Hollywood hunk will play the role of Christian Grey, and the list of possible candidates continues to grow. Ryan Gosling may definitely be the frontrunner, but Ian Somerhalder has also frequently been mentioned, along with Twighlight star Robert Pattinson. But, Pattinson recent relationship drama with Kristen Stewart, who confessed to cheating on Pattinson, may take him out of the running.

Levy brings a Latin appeal along with his high-quality dance moves, something which may be an asset for the male lead. Levy appeared on the cover of People in Spanish for its special issue of the sexiest men of the year in 2011, and starred on Dancing With the Stars in 2012.

When asked about his opinion of the book, Levy said, "I have heard about it. Every day I hear about it. But when I started reading [the book], I looked at these women in a different way let me tell you," he said, referring to fans who wanted him to play Christian Grey. "I would play it. I would love to do it."

Whether he gets cast as the lead, however, remains to be seen. In part, that decision may depend on who gets cast as the female lead, for the part of Anastasia Steele. There have been a host of female actresses cited as potential candiates: Abduction star Lily Collins, Katie Cassidy, Emma Watson, Emma Stone, Alexis Bledel, and Lucy Hale. Fans seem to also be considering Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke. One female star who will definitely not be thrust into the role will be Kristen Stewart, after her scandal with Pattinson.

This level of speculation for who will play the roles of the two leading characters is unprecendented. Even 'Harry Potter,' 'The Lord of the Rings,' and movie daptations of books did not receive this kind of hype. Thus, whoever the choice, the role is likely to thrust two celebrities into international stardom and smash box office records.
