“Bieber Fever” was in full effect Sunday night at the 2012 Teen Choice Awards, where Justin Bieber took home the awards for “Male Artist,” “Single by a Male Artist,” and “Summer Music Star: Male.” He virtually dominated the night, not only performing his hit songs “Boyfriend” and “As Long As You Love Me” off of his new album Believe, but also being the only individual male to take home a coveted surfboard, other than DJ David Guetta and country star Hunter Hayes. Guetta and Hayes took home awards in their specialty categories of “Electric Dance Music Artist” and “Male Country Artist,” respectively.
Ever since his debut single “One Time” in 2009, Bieber has been an international teenybopper heartthrob, prompting millions of adolescent girls to travel thousands of miles just to see him in person. His success and popularity can most easily be seen on Twitter, where he ranks as the second-most followed person on the entire site, with over 25 million followers. He trails Lady Gaga by roughly 2 million followers. In fact, one Twitter employee even admits that “at any moment, Justin Bieber uses 3% of our infrastructure” and that “racks of servers are dedicated to him.”
