On Sunday, Breaking Bad returns to television for its fifth and final season. In the first 46 episode over the course of four years, the show has become one of the most highly regarded shows of all-time.
The AMC show directed by Vince Gilligan is set and produced in New Mexico and tells the story of main character Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher who is diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. He becomes a crystal meh dealer (tranforms from "Mr. Chips into Scarface" according to Gilligan) with a former student Jesse Pinkman, with the aim of making money for his family before he dies. The series has won six Emmy Awards, including three for Lead Actor by Bryan Cranston (formerly of Malcolm in the Middle), who plays Gilligan.
The show's ratings have grown exponentially since it first premiered, and last season was the highest rated yet. The Season 5 premier has been much-anticipated, although the producers have been quiet about what to actually expect. At this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Gilligan did tell a packed audience, "This season is about winning; and what it means to stay on top." Critics are saying this season will live up to the hype.
