OBAMACARE UPHELD! In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court has ruled to uphold the individual mandate and declare Obamacare legal. The decision is complicated and we are reading it now, but the bottom line is the entire ACA was upheld, with the exception of the Medicaid funds rules. Conservative Chief Justice Roberts, appointed under George W. Bush, joined the liberal majority and declared the individual mandate constitutional as a tax, NOT the Commerce Clause.
Second Supreme Court ruling – SCOTUS strikes down (9 to 0) the Stolen Valor Act, which makes it a crime to falsely claim past military service. More from expert Mark Kogan.
Fast and furious – Attorney General Eric Holder is on the hot seat today. At 4:30 pm, the House of Representatives will vote on whether to find him in contempt of Congress for failure to adequately respond to a congressional subpoena for documents in Fast and Furious, the federal law enforcement operation that allowed firearms to circulate among criminals on both sides of the Southwest border. It would be the first time a sitting Cabinet member has been held in contempt of Congress. Wait, what happens to Eric Holder if he is found in contempt?
Also happening today – NBC is giving Ann Curry the boot. The media scandal is true. Just this morning, Curry announced her departure on air. Savannah Guthrie will replace Ann Curry.
