What Romney Has in Common With Haagen Dazs Vanilla Ice Cream

As the GOP National Convention in Tampa rapidly approaches, speculation continues to build over who Repubican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will select as his vice presidential running mate. From a host of potential choices, the man who seems to have emerged as the likely candidate for the VP nod is Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio).

In case there was any lingering doubt about which side represents the 1% in this election, here's how a Romney-Portman ticket stacks up against Obama and Biden in terms of net wealth:

Sen. Rob Portman

The Ohio Senator is firmly ensconced in the millionaires' club. Portman's wealth climbed to at least $6.7 million in 2011, according to his financial disclosure form. That represents a 26% jump from 2010. In that year, the former Office Rentals of Management and Budget Director reported $5.3 million for his minimum net worth. Portman’s liabilities dropped from at least $1 million in 2010 to at least $750,000 last year.  Portman also has sizable holdings in real estate. He has a $1 million asset, for example, tied into an S corporation that has commercial rental property, buildings and vacant land in Cincinnati and Lebanon, Ohio, as well as in Erlanger, Ky.

The 1% Ticket: Mitt Romney net worth ($200 million) + Portman net worth ($6.7 million) = $206.7 million.

I don't know about you, but to me that screams:

The Obama-Biden Ticket: President Obama net worth ($11.8 million) + Joe Biden ($500,000) = $12.3 million.

You do the math.
